Improving services for looked after young people and care leavers

The Listen2Us project is designed to improve services for looked after young people and care leavers in Dumfries and Galloway. We want to hear your views and experiences so we can make sure your voices are heard.

Get involved

We're always looking for more young people to get involved and support the project. You can help if you're aged 12 to 25 and are:

  • in foster care
  • in residential care
  • in kinship care
  • looked after at home
  • leaving care

Speak to your social worker, teacher, carer or other support staff if you're interested in being part of the Listen2Us project.

How it works

The project is supported by a small team of staff. We rely on your views to identify service improvements and make sure they are heard by the people who can make positive changes.

There are three main ways for you to get involved :

  • Local youth provision - there are a number of groups running in schools and communities for care experienced young people to attend. You can meet new people, chill out with friends and generally have fun.
  • Listen2Us meetings - some young people want to take on more of a leadership role or have their voice heard. The Listen2us group meets every 6 weeks at different locations across the region to identify issues, discuss solutions and set the agenda for Champions Board meetings.
  • Champions Board meetings - young people meet with managers from services such as Social Work, Health, Education and Police who have corporate parenting responsibilities to discuss the problems they face. These meetings are held every 4 months and the partnership makes decisions that positively impact the experiences and circumstances of care experienced young people in Dumfries and Galloway.

We also have a Facebook page for the Champions Board so you to get information about upcoming meetings or events and share your ideas with us:
